the bones of music of course jangle

and are drenched in truth

but for today’s broken notes

for the past x hundred years

there was danger in listening

as much as there was entertainment

and distraction

from the stresses of every day life

just take Rock ‘n’ Roll for example

which was tied to the moving

of bodies and sex and subversions

of societal norms and aiding

in the protests of war

or Beethoven with swings

syncopations and ragtime elements

predating jazz of course

which made listeners feel and move

their bodies and dance

against the king and queen

all of this is to say that last night

we were sitting in a bar in the back

with a band playing and not one

person dancing and not one person bopping

their head as the music poured over us

like an empty cloud or water that was lacking wetness

until the second act came on

when the band boned up a wide-on of sound

when the singer and banjoist let loose

and the hair on the back of the necks

of the idiots of Berlin

were tickled all the way down to their bones
